INTERACTIVE ART THE SOCIAL STANDING OF A HOUSEWIFE
This is a school project that we are asked to pick an article and demonstrate it through any art form we like.
The article I chose was "The Social Standing of a Housewife" by Linda Burzotta Nilson in 1978. It's an article discussing how different gender react to the fact of Housewife being recognized as a career. In addition, talks about the social standing of a housewife is found to vary greatly according to her husband's job.
Through this art piece, I want to express that the social standing of a housewife is being less valuable than it should be and should have more respect.
I got inspired by the traditional housewife image and created this interactive artwork.
In the material used, I sew a transparent apron with a red liner to correspond to the housewife image and how their hard work gets ignored by people (Transparent). Then added a mixture of materials that related to housework(ex: different seasoning and dust) on top of the apron to cover up the article.
To read the text, audiences need to experience the daily part of being a housewife- cleaning up the mess. And by doing so it revalues this job.
This interactive art was well received by professor and students alike.
